North America, Native American, purportedly found in Kentucky, USA, Mississipian culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A hand-made, round-bodied jar with a slightly corseted neck, an unpronounced rim, and two strap handles set close to the body of the jar. The Mississipian period saw a dramatic flowering of culture and innovations in technology from previous periods. One of the new types of pottery is this example, sometimes called a "bean pot", used for cooking. Size: 4.75" W x 4" H (12.1 cm x 10.2 cm)
