Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE and 500 CE. A pair of ceramic spindle whorls, each with incised decorations of sunbursts. Each whorl is surrounded by a few seed beads on a chain and hangs down into a modern gold-filled teardrop-shaped hoop. The artwork on these spindle whorls elevates the utilitarian objects to art. Wearable! Size of each: 2.25" H (5.7 cm)
