Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Two fine examples of highly decorated figures from the shaft tomb tradition of West Mexico. Both are female, with one standing and the other seated and holding a bowl, presumably indicating the giving of an offering. Both have their bodies painted with creamy white decoration on a rich, earthy red background. Both wear elaborate earrings and huge, applied wrap-like crowns around their elongated heads. Size of largest: 4.95" W x 10.45" H (12.6 cm x 26.5 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
