Description
A delicate and amazing Peten region Maya shell and jadeite mosaic ear ornaments. From the early classic period, showing central Mexican ran deity Tlaloc on the inside. They each measure 3″ D x 1″ H. There is a stucco like base that all the elements are set into. There is manganese dioxide bloom over parts of this material and on the shell. Only one of these flares has had some restoration, setting back in place about a dozen jadeite elements after the stuccoed surface appalled away at some point. The pair were made for Maya royalty. The slivers of spinach green jadeite are so thin in areas, they are only as thick as a thumbnail, and translucent. A fantastic pair!
