Description
1658 Marcus Aurelius Meditations Stoic Philosophy French Christina of Sweden
“You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
Marcus Aurelius was one of the most famous Roman emperors of the Roman Empire, much of that fame comes from his most famous work ‘Meditations.’ This work is an important insight into the philosophy of Roman thought and comes directly from Marcus Aurelius’ private notes. They were intended to be a ‘self-help’ or ‘self-improvement’ even though Aurelius never intended them to be published. He discusses themes of avoiding indulgences and human vices, honing in on skills, disallowing others to overpower you, ways to clear your mind, and focusing on things you can control.
“This French translation was dedicated to Queen Christina of Sweden to whom the prefatory epistle is addressed by the translator, Benedict Jesper Krus” (Schweiger I, 34)
