Charles-Joseph de Bevy was an 18th-century Benedictine monk and French historian for King Louis XV. His list of works is quite small, however, he is remembered for an important and impressive work - “History of Inaugurations of Kings.” Originally published in 1776, this work features 14 full-page engravings depicting over 80 different costumes and items of clothing worn by royalty, kings, and emperors in France from the 13th- through the 18th-century. Illustrations also include views of French military soldiers and gunsmiths, and many more.
