Description
1753 LUS ECCLESIASTICUM UNIVERSUM LARGE LEATHER BOUND FOLIO
By Van Espen, Zeger Bernard, Lovannii
(Folio) 39x24 cm (15½x9½") period mottled calf, gilt spines, spine labels lettered in gilt., marbled endpapers.
Formerly of the Mount St. Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus, NY.
Zeger Bernhard van Espen was a Belgian canonist. Van Espen was a lucid and clarifying expositor of the discipline of the ancient Church. His Jus canonicum universum was a huge treatise, arguing that the Catholic Church was fundamentally conciliar. He is accused, not without reason, of having borrowed considerably from the works of his predecessors, notably from Louis Thomassin.
Some wear, soiling and scuffing to bindings, with rubbing to extremities, areas of leather peeling away at spines corners worn and lightly bumped; some toning and scattered foxing to interiors, very good.
Please note that this lot has a confidential reserve. When you leave a bid in advance of the auction, submit your maximum. The bidder who has submitted the highest bid wins the lot, provided the bid exceeds the reserve price.
