Native American, US Southwest, New Mexico, Santa Clara Pueblo, Margaret Gutierrez (b. 1936) and Luther Gutierrez (1911 - 1987), ca. late 20th century CE. An absolutely beautiful polychrome pottery jar. It has a planar base and a spherical body that gradually tapers to a narrow neck and a flared rim. The body's wheat-hued base exhibits a colorful decorative program depicting Avanyu, the Native American water serpent, along with several other minimalist animals and a myriad of abstract linear and geometric motifs, all atop matte-red ground. The neck exterior displays classic stepped and triangular designs, and the upper rim interior is colored in a similar red hue; the interior cavity is unadorned. Signed by the artists on the base, this is a stunning example of Santa Clara Pueblo pottery proficiency! Size: 7" H (17.8 cm).

Age-commensurate surface wear with light abrasions and fading to pigmentation, otherwise intact and excellent. A signature reading "Margaret | Luther Santa Clara Pueblo" is written in silver marker on the base.
