AN ANCIENT ROMAN TERRA SIGILLATA WINE JUG, POSSIBLY CYPRIOT, CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D., matte red slip painted buff clay, wheel made, the round, everted rim over a slightly tapered coil constructed neck, joined by a upward whip form, flat, grooved handle, to a globular body, ending on a circular footed base. Height: 10" Diameter: 7"
Condition
Minor chips, hair line crack at neck base, minor surface losses on body, white colored encrustation intermittently throughout, some evidence of liquid drips, medallion now lacking, interior has dust, dirt, and natural fiber debris, ink numbers on base, otherwise in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
