Description
A JUDAICA SILVER PLATE CASED VELLUM MEGILLAH SCROLL, LAST HALF 19TH CENTURY, POSSIBLY CONTINENTAL, an "Esther Scroll," used for celebrating Purim, the ball finial over a tapered dome, above a case with repousse scrolling foliate on a hand hammered textured ground, centering a circular bead medallion centering a Star of David, opening to a sinew sewn ink on vellum scroll, ending in a tapered handle, terminating in a lobed finial. Height: 18 1/2" Diameter: 4 /12"
Condition
The exterior with black patina, rubbing of the silver overlay, various dents, scratches, and general wear throughout. The vellum appears dry for approximately half of the scroll, has darkened areas, various repairs, some fading or rubbing of ink, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
