Item Details

Description

AN EARLY GEORGE III PINE LONG CASE CLOCK, ENGLISH, 18TH/19TH CENTURY, the molded crown over a square window within engaged turned columns, opening to a square clock face painted with Roman numeral hour marks, and Arabic numeral minute marks, centering "Rd. Smith/Brill", within painted flower bloom sprays; the clock face verso inscribed "April 13, 1818-1831," with a brass and iron birdcage movement, the bell marked with spurious painted letters, over a cavetto frieze above a long fielded panel pendulum door, opening to an iron arm joining a brass covered lead pendulum and iron weight, raised on a square plinth, and terminating in stepped bracket feet with a serpentine skirt. Height: 78" Width: 18" Depth: 9"

Condition

The paint with some rubbing and losses, craquelure, chips, one pulley is carved wood and has chipped losses, chain likely replaced, service marking "Repeatr 10/7/71 HJF" on outer gear. The case has various chips, scratches, dark marks, dents, the door hinge has multiple repairs and now has a replaced strap hinge, door has various additive repairs, chips and heavy wear, the back has apparent repairs, general expected wear, overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
