Hill of West Stockbridge Mass., including: March 31, 1818, as Major of Second Regiment of Infantry, First Brigade, Ninth Division, signed by Governor John Brooks and Secretary Alden Bradford; PLUS August 30, 1819, as Lieutenant Colonel of the same Regiment, same signatures; PLUS Jan 25, 1822 as Colonel of the same Regiment, with same signatures; PLUS March 4, 1824 Resignation as Colonel, signed by W.H. Sumner, Adjutant General.
John Brooks (1752-1825) was a doctor, military officer, and politician from Massachusetts. He served as the 11th Governor of Massachusetts from 1816 to 1823, and was one of the last Federalist officials elected in the United States.
Alden Bradford (1765-1843) was an American politician, clergyman and author who served as the 5th Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth.
William Hyslop Sumner (1780-1861) was the son of Governor Increase Sumner. He served as a general in the Massachusetts militia. Sumner wrote The History of East Boston.
