Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Bahia culture, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A large bichrome terracotta figure of a seated lord or ruler. He sits erect, with one leg crossed over the other, upon which both bent arms are gently resting. A large conical pectoral and neck strap hang towards the ground, and two cuff bracelets adorn his wrists. His head is detailed with almond-shaped eyes, a large nose with flared nostrils and a hanging spherical adornment, full lips, and spiralized ears. Upon his broad forehead rests an enormous headdress with a flared lower brim, a large upper brim, and a mound-shaped top portion with a central perforation. The surface is detailed in hues of red and pink atop a buff surface, and beckons a vibrant and regal appearance suggestive of high societal status. Size: 7.25" H (18.4 cm).
