Rear circular adhesion that appears to be the remnants of a red wax export seal.

Old typed label in English affixed to reverse identifying artwork as hand painted in Nepal.

Support medium is woven and of fairly heavy stock - uncertain if silk, linen or canvas (the weave is visible in rear including around what we believe to be the wax seal remnant). We believe this to be circa 19th century however it may be older but simply sold as circa pre-War to antique (as probably near to well over 100 years old).

Generally sound estate discovery condition with number of notes: If one looks at skin of central buddha & at white pigments on seated figures slightly below buddha to left and right and at pigment on dog at right as well as at elephants circling buddha + examine red background surrounding buddha as well as at middle left and right outer areas & at far upper left as well as scattered elsewhere one will see tactile irregularity of a gouache or watercolor or related pigment(s). Not sure of how much of that is original to the painterly execution, how much is natural drying and aging and how much may be pigment deterioration or rubbing but we often see this on painted fabrics, consider it somewhat typical and assume it's within sphere of being commensurate w/ age. See angular darker buddha chest pic highlighting this unevenness. See many pics. Diagonal line across buddha face - appears to be pencil. Mild waves from being loose. Unmounted, unmatted & unframed. A few slight edge unravelings. Gilt wear areas.
