**First Time At Auction**
Western Africa, Mali, Dogon people, ca. early 20th century CE. A tall kneeling female figure carved from a single piece of light-brown wood, with characteristically abstracted features. She kneels on an integral base and has both arms bent at her abdomen, with a slightly distended belly and drooping breasts. Her head sits upon a cylindrical neck and displays tightly-grouped facial features, perky ears near the back of the head, a slender and tapering forehead, and a nubbin-shaped topknot. Size: 6.75" H (17.1 cm); 7.25" H (18.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-Nick Poolos collection, Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA acquired before 1970

Condition
Age-commensurate surface wear, small chips to head, feet, and chest, losses to head and base, and a large crack along one side of the head. Light earthen deposits and light-brown patina throughout.
