Description
East Asia, China, Neolithic period, ca. 3rd millennium BCE. A graceful, elegant biconical creamware (sometimes called plain ware) jar with two small lug handles integrated into the body and a wide, funicular neck ending in a flared rim. The neck tapers to an angled body, which is decorated with vertical impressed lines that run down the lower body to a flat foot. Chinese Neolithic pottery has a very distinctive style compared to other Neolithic pottery traditions around the world, often with a graceful, understated form.
