Description
Fine 19th century Minton English majolica pottery centerpiece entitled, Flower Bearers, Shape No.1182, and likely designed by Albert Carrier Belleuse. Modeled as a scallop shell flanked by mermaid supports, their hair applied with lily-pads and spilling into the interior of the robins egg blue bowl, all supported by two smaller shells among sea grasses, on an oval base. Similar examples were shown at the Philadelphia 1876 Centennial Exhibition. The underside bears several impressed marks, Minton, an uppercase G, an asterisk, the numbers 1182 and a small letter j, and hand painted inside the foot is the letter H, Good condition. Measures 17.8 inches wide x 10 inches high.
