Edmund Burke was an 18th-century Irish politician whose orations and speeches to Parliament made a lasting impact on political theory and major events such as the French Revolution. He frequently spoke out against public torture and condemnation for criminals, protested trade laws and commerce restriction, and many more. However, one of his most famous speeches came on February 11th, 1780 when he called for a reduction in frivolous spending – a speech that would develop into the Secret Service Money Act of 1782. He fought for economic reforms within the Parliament, a fight that would cost over 100 official positions within the British government.
