Description
Central Asia, Bactria (Bactria Margiana / BMAC), ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A charming carving of a seated bull, made from a wonderful marbled stone of milky white hues with marvelous pale grey and dark burgundy inclusions. Composed of simple shapes, with the horns and a shallow, cut line around the center of the body as the main details, the form is immediately legible as a bull. This animal was a sign of virility and male power in antiquity. Size: 3.55" L x 1.7" W x 2.05" H (9 cm x 4.3 cm x 5.2 cm)
