Description
The pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain plant pots are potted in deep vessel cylindrical body having vertical wall to the over flared rim everted from a broad flat cavetto, raised on slightly concaved foot base. The exterior decorated with polychrome hand painting of vivid color peach abundant with its branching foliage and flying orange-red Fu-bats. The rim with sprays of colorful floral bouquets. Th glaze stopped about shoulder high in the interior, revealed the creme-grayish unglazed ground. The decoration referred as, Eight peaches (batao) and five bats (WuFu), WuShou ShangGuan, may you possess both blessings and longevity. The Eight peaches stand for Eight Immortals whom bestow longevity, The bats are a pun for the five blessings: longevity, wealth, health, love of virtue, and a peaceful death.
The peach (Tao) signifies the second month of the lunar calendar.
Also symbolizes marriage, spring, justice and especially Daoist immortality (longevity), and one of the Three Abundances (Three Plenty).

PROVENANCE:
From The Private Collections of Jean-Pierre Bradley. This special group of items were bought from an estate sale, the consignors were told that these items came from the first wife (pictured) of Jean-Pierre Bradley. Born in France and left in 1936 to become a long time resident from Georgia. A graduate of MIT in Electrical engineering was recruited to be involved in the initial planning of the first US ICBM. Throughout his life he had the opportunity to travel extensively . His travels led him to many foreign countries where he would buy treasures for his beloved wife. These items are believed to be a small part of the treasures he invested in. The Jean-Pierre Bradley's collections can be found from Lot-133 through Lot-174.
