Late 19th century, Jean-Louis Gregoire (France 1840-1890) monumental bronze sculpture modeled as two French soldiers on the battlefield, one clutching his fallen comrade, titled "La Defense Du Drapeau), a patriotic bronze, one of at least five different versions that Gregoire executed to protest the Prussian territorial land grab and occupation of Alsace Lorraine in 1870, very good condition, 36" x 18", this piece was offered with an estimate of $20,000-$30,000 at Skinners in July 2010
