Japanese iron kettle by Kakutani Ikkei (1904-1999) (appointed Living National Treasure in 1978), of compressed ovoid shape cast in low relief with pines along a seashore, a pair of small animal-headed lug handles below the shoulder, with a patinated bronze lid, accompanying box (tomobako) inscribed ‘Hamamatsu jimon/shinnarigama/ashi[]-utsuru’ and signed ‘Kamashi (=kettle master), Ikkei-saku’, sealed ‘Kakutani’.
