Description
**First Time At Auction**
North America, Native American, US Southwest, New Mexico, Santa Clara Pueblo, ca. early 20th century CE. A colorful pair of redware pottery vessels used as dispensers for finely-ground salt and pepper. Each vessel has a flat base with a slight concave center and a fill hole, and a round body which tapers to a perforated top section. The open bases would likely have been closed by a rubber stopper or wooden plug. Each vessel has a burnished surface in a russet hue, with gray hemispheric and light-orange triangular designs around the shoulders outlined in white. Size of each: 2.375" H (6 cm).

Condition
Minor losses to shaker end of one vessel. Both vessels have rough base fill holes. Age-related surface wear and pitting, with slight fading to pigmentation and some mineral deposits.
