Description
Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)Attributed, in the manner of the artist): Double-sided Tree and Figure Study, ink drawing on paper, signed, edges of paper slightly torn. Unframed.
This page was removed from a cardboard and linen sketchbook measuring approximately 6 x 9 inches, and formerly containing 11 sheets of drawings and sketches Attributed, for reference, but the cover is not included with the lot. The two drawings on this page show the mature drawing style of Vincent Van Gogh. They are dominated by the easy-flowing rhythm for which his drawings are prized. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity/attribution by painting conservator/art historian Bruce Wood, MFA.
Dimensions: 5.75x8.75 in. image
Provenance: Part of a sketchbook discovered in a family estate (the owner now deceased). An attached note read simply: "Loudmer, Paris,'85. 120,000FF". Origin of the note is unknown and it is not signed or dated. Further investigation suggests that it may refer to Guy Loudmer or to his auction house in Paris, circa 1985.
