Description
**First Time At Auction**
Byzantium, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. This clean-looking terracotta vessel has a large raised ring base with a pronged cross design in the center, smooth sloping shoulders, pinched sides, sloping shoulders with a linear motif on each side, a conical handle, a large raised fill hole, a clearly-defined neck channel, and a miniscule wick spout. The form of the lamp extends upwards due to the orientation of the body on the base. Size: 4" L x 2.75" W x 1.75" H (10.2 cm x 7 cm x 4.4 cm).
Provenance: private New Jersey USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
