Notes & Literature An important part of African culture, these gorgeous large beads were worn as adornment and signified the wealth of the wearer. They have been worn for over 100 years all over northern and eastern Africa.
These wonderful beads are becoming harder and harder to find as they date from the early 19th century. They have a warm and rich golden color and are light weight and smooth to the touch from years of wear.
Not true amber, African amber was made from synthetic resin and imported from Europe from the late 1800’s on. There are many regional variations as to the designs of the beads and how they were worn.
Condition Report Beads have been restrung.
