Description
Native American, Southwestern US, Anasazi (Ancient Puebloan) culture, Pueblo I, Kayenta Arizona, ca. 750 to 900 CE. A ceramic ladle, in an elongated form (probably made by pressing clay over a gourd), and painted white, with black motifs of jagged lines around the interior rim. The motifs look like mountains, and may have been inspired by the landscape that the makers inhabited, which contained sacred peaks. Kana'a Black-on-White is an early form of Ancestral Puebloan pottery, found mainly in northeastern Arizona between the Little Colorado River and the San Juan River.
