This Shotei original pre-earthquake woodblock print depicts a snow scene with travelers making their way by a large lake, with a pine-laden village in the background. This print was published by Watanabe Publishers before the great Kanto earthquake in 1923, so it is considered pretty scarce, if not rare. It was likely listed in a Watanabe Catalog before 1923, under the name 'Kakei', which is an early name for Shotei. It is sealed 'Kakei', and is titled in the upper right corner. We show the seal in the photos, and guarantee this to be an authentic Shotei (Kakei) woodblock print. It measures 9.5" high by 6.5" wide.

Condition

The print is in very good condition, with generalized toning, a tiny chip in the upper margin, and some old tissue/tape residue in the upper right corner, mostly on the verso (perhaps an old repair), and there is some old glue on the left upper corner, verso from a previous mount.
