Wise, Kelly (Editor). LOTTE JACOBI. (Text by James A. Fasanelli). Danbury, N.H.: Addison House, 1978. First Edition, Signed on the 1/2 title page and noted as #123 of an edition of 125 in the deluxe issue with an original silver print photo portrait by Jacobi (signed in pencil) of Albert Einstein. Book is 10 by 11 1/4 inches in white woven cloth with brown titling to the upper cover and spine. The photo of Einstein is 9 7/8 by 7 1/4 inches. Housed in a woven cloth clamshell box with a gilt printed leather label to the upper cover. Lotte Jacobi (1896-1990) descended from a line of talented German photographers. During World War II, the Nazis offered her Aryan status. Jacobi refused and fled with her family to America. She established a studio in New York and became one of the leading photographers in the country. In addition to Einstein, her portraits of notable subjects include Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert Frost, Alfred Stieglitz, and J.D. Salinger.
