Description
A lovely Tairona carnelian (perhaps red calcite) mortar, Colombia, c. AD 500 – 1000, carved from red calcite, the well carved in the form of a spiraling seashell and the bowl with two perforations for suspension. L: 4 ¾ in. (12.1 cm). A very interesting piece! Ex Southern California private collection.
