Description
Carlo Jean-Jacques
(Haitian/Port-au-Prince, 1943-1990)
Restaurant Scene circa 1970's
Oil on canvas 16 x 24 in.
framed 17 1/4 x 25 1/8 in.
Provenance: Dr. Bob Brictson Collection
Lot Essay: Carlo Jean-Jacques, always interested in drawing, focuses on long lines in his portraiture that alternates from the expressive to one that highlights the pose. While for some time Jean-Jacques worked in Henri Calixte's studio, his approach to geometry wasn't directly rooted in art-historical cubism but rather in how he can re-shape interactions between spheres, ovoids and rectangles in what he saw as their natural occurrences.
