Description
A large Egyptian terracotta mold for a cobra head, New Kingdom, 1570 – 1075 BC, which would have produced heads for the uraei that lined the top of the tiled walls at the various New Kingdom palaces such as found at Tel-el Amarna and Malqata near Luxor. 3 3/8 x 2 ½ x 1 ½ in. (8.6 x 6.4 x 3.8 cm). Very well preserved with light deposits. From either Amarna or El Kab. Cf. Petrie, Tell El Amarna (1894), pl. XVII, 10-13 for the type. Ex Orange County private collection.
