Description
**First Time At Auction**

North America, Native American, Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE. An adorable blackware pottery figure of a turtle with a large and wonderful incised floral design with a turquoise bead in the center. The quadruped figure has four nub-shaped legs and a similarly-shaped tail, an elongated head, and a concave underside. The turtle is a sign of longevity amongst the Santa Clara Pueblo peoples, and this example is indicative of the expert level of their artistry. Size: 4" L (10.2 cm).
