Please contact them or your own choice of shipper directly. *** Mark Workman was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1960 and completed his B.F.A. degree from the Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1982. He currently lives in Lititz Pennsylvania with his family and maintains a studio / gallery there. Workman paints the rural Pennsylvania landscape, emphasizing poetic vistas and atmospheric perspectives leading into vast distance and skies that take up most of the picture space. His luminous landscapes have been included in exhibitions at museums and galleries across the country, including Fischbach and Bernarducci Meisel Galleries in New York City, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Butler Institute of Art and the Springfield Museum of Art where he has been a regular participant and award winner in their annual Watercolor USA exhibit. His work has also been featured in many books and magazines and can be found in numerous museum and corporate collections, including General Electric Company, Bank of Tokyo, Exxon Corporation, Philbrook Museum of Art, Lancaster Museum of Art and the Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art. He has received grants from the PA Council on the Arts and the Pollack-Krasner Foundation, A Monotype is a one of a kind, hand-pulled print. Even though a monotype is a print, it is an original, not a reproduction. In monotyping, paint is applied onto a smooth surface and then, using a rag, some of the paint is wiped away to create the image. It is a one of a kind single print, as the name implies. Monotyping is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The surface, or matrix, was historically a copper etching plate, but in contemporary work it can vary from zinc or glass to acrylic glass. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, usually using a printing-press. Monotypes can also be created by inking an entire surface and then, using brushes or rags, removing ink to create a subtractive image, e.g. creating lights from a field of opaque color. A few of the well know monotype artists include Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Jane Cooper, Camille Pissarro and Helen Frankenthaler.
