A Colt Model 1845 Brazilian Bayonet measuring approx. 28.75"l, including handle. Blade measures approx. 24" with an approx. 1/8"width. The blade is marked on the left ricasso with S&K, for Schnitzler and Kirschbaum of Solingen, Germany (1811-1864) and marked on the right ricasso with an anchor emblem. Also has iron cross-guards and brass hilts. Originally produced to fit the Brazilian Naval Rifle and was also sold with the US Model 1855 Colt Revolving Artillery Carbine. The cross-guard ustilizes a "coks-comb" upper quillon finial, which was used on similar period British bayonets. These also saw limited use during the American Civil War. Great condition with minor dings and tarnish. Blade measures approx. 24"l and the overall length (including handle) is approx. 28.75" (not including sheath).
