Description
Europe, late Medieval period, ca. 13th to 15th century CE. A large, round, stone cannonball with a fascinating surface covered in pocked encrustation, the result of deposition in a bog or even wetter environment. This type of round shot was made from stone until the 17th century CE. It was made to be fired from a smoothbore cannon to attack fortifications, fire upon ships, and even fire into crowds. One of the quintessential medieval weapons! Size: 6.25" W (15.9 cm)
