Chinese jade in shape of a compressed bell, with relief of archaic geometrical pattern simulating the Tao-tie mask decoration. A loop handle carved on the top hanging from elaborately open work carved hardwood frame stand in floral foliate motif. The upper arch frame open-works carved in descending Fu bat motif, crowned with HuangYangMu box wood Buddha finger Citroen shaped finial. The nephrite jade shows pale celadon color with moist milky appearance.
A stone chime Qing is an ancient musical instrument rather like a bell, it was an ‘L’ shaped stone suspended by a string and struck with a stick. Originally some of the stones were of made of jade. The chime is important in symbolism because Qing means ‘high ranking official’ and Qing ‘celebrate’. Sometimes two Qing's are shown placed together to form a rectangle to represent ‘doubling’ the wish for an official appointment.
