Description
A Very rare old wooden mask from the Baule peoples, Cote De Ivorie, West Africa. Carved wood with a large round geometric face and classic carving style, the tall antelope horns and cubistic like facial features. The mask interior and edges all show consistent wear and handling, suggesting some field use. Note the Bite bard or mouth bit in the back for the dancer. The mask itself measures 34 x 19 inches ( Not counting the display stand which was used to prop up the mask for photography purposes and is not included, it is too top heavy for a stand and would look best hung on the wall, it is a huge mask!) Among the Baule such masks appeared in harvest festivals and parades.
