DESCRIPTION: Portrait of George Douglas Dods. Oil on canvas. Unsigned. In gilded frame. George Douglas Dods (1817-1857) was a military aid at Sterling Castle in Scotland. By descent to Edward McPherson's grandchild from a relative of Ann Dods Crawford who married Edward McPherson. PROVENANCE: Property from the Edward McPherson House in Gettysburg, PA. See lot #27. MEASUREMENTS: 49-1/2" x 39". Overall with frame 53" x 42". CONDITION: Relined and cleaned. Light overall wear as expected with age and use.
