An authentic Pre-Columbian Olmec baby, seated with short fat legs spread like a baby, short thick arms out, fingers and toes delineated by incised lines, buff colored clay and slip with some red slip and some thick traces of red cinnabar pigment, slight dark-gray firing clouds on this fired ceramic's surface, hollow with small open holes as eyes, mouth, and bellybutton, many attributes typical of a classical and coveted Olmec baby figure including the facial features and its domed head and hair, heartland Olmec region of Mexico, 2000BC-800BC, Provenance: in a private collection since Sotheby's Nov. 1984 NYC Important Pre-Columbian Art sale #5247, lot #56
