Description
Lectures on Modern History, The Irruption of the Northern Nations to the Close of the American Revolution. William Smyth. Published by Pickering & Deighton, 1840. Binding: Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket. This is the complete 2-Volume 1840 Pickering & Deighton (Cambridge) publication of William Smyth's Lectures on Modern History, The Irruption of the Northern Nations to the Close of the American Revolution (433 & 494 pages), printed by Whittingham (Chiswick). Bickers & Son have re-covered these in full tree calf, with gilt borders, extensively gilded spines with 5 raised bands, gilt wrap-around to the inside cover borders. These have light scuffs, but no significant stains and little fade to the gilt. The spines are straight and securely attached, with no looseness to the front and back covers. The only stamps are the personal bookplates of Rev. J. Tuttle Smith, to each front inside cover. There are no other attachments and no notations. The pages are clean throughout both volumes, with a very few spot stain. The page edges, gilt all-around, are bright and unfaded. There are no loose or missing pages.
