Description
The Speaking Well. Oil on canvas by Anatole Vely (1838 - 1882) depicting a Lady standing at a well with her Noble suitor. The present work was on display at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC from 1873-1955 and subsequently was sold to Knoedler in NYC. It is written that the famed stained glass artist, Louis Tiffany was so enamored of this work that he personally crafted a window depicting its image.
