Description
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. Carved from a near-translucent piece of white jade, with brown and purple / red bands through it, this is a sculpture of two children playing beside a large blossoming flower populated by two bats. In China, the bat, known as "fu", is a symbol of happiness and joy; "fu" in fact sounds identical to the word for "good fortune". Size: 5.4" W x 7.875" H (13.7 cm x 20 cm)
