VIRGINIA HISTORICAL HALF-PLATE THERMOPLASTIC PATENT UNION CASE housing a tin-type image of a family of seven, said to be the S.O. Fisher family of Lynchburg, VA; case obverse featuring the George Washington Monument, Capitol Square, Richmond, surrounded by trumpeting angels, eagles. American flags and shields, the reverse featuring a plain oval surrounded by the same border as the obverse, interior with red velvet lining to front, paper backing bearing printed mark "GENUINE / UNION CASE, / IMPROVED. / Fine Gilt and Burnished / Hinge. / S. PECK & CO., / Manufacturers." Third quarter 19th century. Case 6 1/4" x 5" OA.
