These are volumes I and II (of four) of the French translation, by J. B. E. Pascal, from the original Italian (Direttorio ascetico) of P. Scamarelli (jesuit), of the "Guide Ascétique ou Conduite de l'Ame par les Voies Ordinaires de la Grace a la Perfection Chrétienne"(489 + 403 pages), noted as the eighth edition. The covers, leather spines and marbled paper-surfaced boards, are scuffed, both to the edges and the faces. The gilt lettering is faded but legible. The spines are securely attached, as are all boards. The insides are in good condition. There are no stamps or other attachments. The only writings are to a single (otherwise blank) front edge page in each volumes, stating "Congregation de l'Assumption, No. 22". The pages are sunned to their borders, but with few other stains. The text is unfaded and uniformly legible. The bindings are secure, with no loose or missing pages.
