‘Excursions’ is a collection of several short essays by Henry David Thoreau. Originally published in 1863, this anthology helped lay the groundwork for the transcendentalism movement as well as philosophical movements focusing on environmentalism. While in their most basic form, these essays depict simple, pastoral themes, but at their core the symbolism is profuse, especially in “Walden” and “Walking”.

This first edition includes all nine Thoreau essays as well as a biographical sketch of Thoreau by R.W. Emerson.
