Description
19th century Chinese Export minaiature portrait of William Charles Hunter. A merchant who lived in China as a tea importer. He was also contemporary Historian of Hong Kong. William was also a very close friend of George Chinnery who painted several portraits of William Hunter. It is possible this miniature portrait is by George Chinnery. There is a very similar miniature painting in a similar frame by "Sungua" illustrated in Carl Crossman's book on "Chinese Export". page 44. Sight size: 4" x 3-1/8". Overall size: 8-7/8" x 8-1/4". Some rubbing to paint areas. Also available is more of the family history and provenance.
