Description
Ancient Near East, Persia, ca. 11th to 12th century CE. A polychrome wheel-thrown terracotta bowl of a broad form, with curved walls, a thin rim, a deep bowl cavity with a highly-reflective glazed coating, and a short round foot. This example features beautifully-stylized designs, including leaves, abstract geometric and pointillist shapes, a long-necked bird, and a checker-patterned fish, painted in hues of chocolate brown, yellow, and green on a cream ground on the tondo. The exterior register has a repeating pattern of striped triangular shapes painted in light brown on the unglazed exterior. Size: 7.25" W x 2.875" H (18.4 cm x 7.3 cm)
