Description
Medieval Near East/Western Asia, Persia (Iran), Nishapur, ca. 12th century CE. A beautiful pottery bowl featuring a deep basin and convex walls painted with elaborate floral motifs in hues of black and turquoise on buff ground. Both the exterior and interior walls feature a multi-petalled flower filled with intricate scrolling and abstract patterns resembling calligraphy. Size: 8.5" Diameter x 4" H (21.6 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: private Young collection, New Hampshire, USA, before 2000

Condition
Some small chips to rim and light surface wear as shown. Short, stable hairline surface fissure extending from rim in one area, but otherwise intact and excellent with nice remaining pigments and rich earthen deposits to surface.
