This is a very nice sterling silver mounted purse or evening bag by English silversmith Samuel Jacob. From a decorative clip suspended by a chain hangs this beautiful little bag. The oval mount displays two couples dancing a formal dance in an outdoor setting. The purse clips shut at the top. It is in excellent condition for it's age, with the hinge and clasp in good working order. The black velvet is original to the bag, with the lining worn because it was silk and rotted away. A new lining could make it perfect. The velvet shows some wear at the seams. Fully hallmarked for the London silversmith Samuel Jacob with the date mark for 1900. He was a well known for his quality work. It measures 6 1/2" x 4" including the chain. The bag alone measures 4" x 4".
